The 4-week course forms a part of the work Family Hubs has been doing which offer residents support with a range of practical, social, emotional and financial issues. Over the course of the 4 weeks parents learn to cook a low-cost healthy meal, then are given the ingredients to practice at home. During the course, parents are also given a slow cooker for free allowing them to practice cooking the meals they have learnt to prepare in the sessions.
Guest speakers also attend to offer advice including speakers from CAP UK and Thinking Works to discuss money management, Sutton Health & Care to discuss healthy eating, and the Welfare Benefits Advice & Support team to meet with parents and discuss support needs.
The sessions are open to vulnerable residents across the borough including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and on lower incomes, creating an inclusive environment for residents to learn how to afford and maintain a healthy diet.
