World Suicide Prevention Day - Thursday 10 September 2020

Organised by the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organisation, the purpose of World Suicide Prevention Day is to promote worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. Preventing suicide is often possible and we can all make a difference.

This year the theme is “Working Together to Prevent Suicide” as it highlights the most essential ingredient for effective global suicide prevention- collaboration. All of us have a role to play and together we can collectively address the challenges presented by suicidal behaviour in society today.

The SSAB in conjunction with its partners, the London Borough of Sutton and Community Action Sutton hosted a series of events on that day.  The talks included

- Daniel Ayeni - Community Action Sutton - Sutton Men in Sheds

- Papyrus - Suicide Prevention and Partnership Working

- Steve Triner, Citizens Advice Sutton - The Role of Advice Services in Reducing Suicide

If you are interested in attending our talks, please email ssab@sutton.gov.uk to go onto our Newsletter mailing list and you will be notified of current SSAB activity and upcoming events.

Message from Independent Chair, Fiona Bateman

Welcome to the SSAB website. Whilst we find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Sutton residents and staff from across partnership agencies who have risen to the remarkable challenges that the Coronavirus outbreak presents. I really appreciate how hard everyone is working to identify, report and respond to safeguarding issues during this period. The way in which we work has adapted at pace, but agencies have been working together to pro-actively anticipate needs and respond so as to reduce risk to our most vulnerable residents. Our Board members met last week and heard how, despite the challenges, safeguarding responsibility remains a key priority for all partners. SSAB members confirmed their shared commitment to providing support and maintaining vital services, particularly for those at risk or experiencing abuse or neglect. I hope you find the latest issue of our the website interesting and informative.  We would urge everyone to regularly check our website which is updated frequently to provide alerts on emerging risks (such as financial scams) or ways to access support services. Now, more than ever, safeguarding really is everyone’s business.

NHS Covid 19 app launch - 24 September 2020

We have announced the date in advance so that businesses are able to download and display QR codes and prepare for the launch.  The codes will be an important way for NHS Test and Trace in England and NHS Test, Trace, Protect in Wales to contact people if coronavirus outbreaks are identified. The app works in exactly the same way in both nations.

QR posters are unique to each venue – businesses can download posters for their premises here. We have also pulled together FAQs for businesses on QR codes.

The explainer pack for the NHS COVID- 19 pack.

Attached is the updated slide pack setting out the benefits and functions of the app, and you can find further assets and materials on our website: https://covid19.nhs.uk/information-and-resources.html
